Top 5 are Premier Dragons at European Championship in St Petersburg

Marcus Brennecke helmsman of Cameleer GER 11 comments: “During the Russian Championship it was light to medium westerly winds and we finished 2nd behind Anatoly Loginov also in his PCT; Anatoly sails probably most and was already in the past Goldcup winner and two times each 3rd at the Goldcup and the Europeans. 3rd was Dmitry Samokhin, last year 2nd at the Worlds and the Goldcup.

The Europeans with mostly northerly breeze had a dramatic finish as each of the 4 top teams could have won. On the last day we won the 1st race (our 2nd win during the Europeans) whilst early regatta leaders Markus and Anatoly discarded their 8. race. Stephan Link finished 2nd so before the final race he was leading, we were 2nd only 1 point ahead of Anatoly and Markus. All 4 teams struggled a bit in the last race and Stephan and Markus sailed another discard. In the end Anatoly managed to finish 5th whilst we - after a tight battle with him on the last beat - ended as 7th. Therewith the final results were

1. Anatoly Loginov, Vadim Statsenko, Alexander Shalagin RUS 27, 32 pts

2. Stephan Link, Frank Butzmann, Michael Lipp GER 1162, 32 pts

3. Marcus Brennecke, Jochen Schümann, Theis Palm GER 11, 34 pts

4. Markus Wieser, Sergey Pugachev, Diego Negri UAE 7, 36 pts

5. Yevgen Braslavets, Sergey Timokhov, Oleksandr Myrchuk UAE 8, 42 pts

Top 5 were all PCT dragons plus Hugo Stenbeck 7th and Hendrik Witzmann 12th.”

Stephan Link helmsmann of Desert Holly, GER 1162 who achieved a second place at the Europeans comments: “due to the good angle and the good speed of our PCT Dragon, we could concentrare on persuing our tacitas in both upwind and down wind courses dan were always amongst the top boats.” GER1162 cre Frank Butzmann commented: “ sailing was good fun in St. Petersburg, the sailing conditions were just as excellent as the organisation of the event.”
